Golf Irrigation Technician’s Course

This two day hands-on course provides the student with all aspects of golf course irrigation systems. This class is ideal for golf course irrigation technicians, assistant superintendents, distributor personnel or other irrigation professionals that want a better understanding of the installation, maintenance and repair of efficient golf course irrigation systems. Day One Learn the basics of hydraulics and the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of valve-in-head rotors. Also covered are the fundamentals of electricity as it applies to troubleshooting irriga­tion controllers, proper use of a multi-meter and tracking/locating valves, wire breaks and nicked insulation faults. Day Two Become skilled at connecting communication and power wires using DBY and/or DBR splices. Conduct hands-on exercises setting up and pro­gramming controllers. Learn how to troubleshoot and repair two-wire decoder systems. Conduct hands-on exercises dealing with grounding and surge protection matters, such as performing a CAD-Weld operation and conducting tests mea­suring the resistance of a grounding grid.

SiteControl Hardware Basic

Basic Hardware Training is the beginning step for the contractor engaged in the business of SiteControl Central Control irrigation system in­stallation. This training introduces and defines the role of all SiteControl system hardware compo­nents. Conduct hands-on exercises dealing with grounding and surge protection matters, such as performing a CAD-Weld operation and conduct­ing earth resistance measurements utilizing an Earth Ground Resistance Tester. Learn additional techniques conducting hands-on exercises dem­onstrating the proper operation of a wire locator as well as demonstrating the proper operation in pinpointing ground faults. The participant should have a working knowledge of the landscape irrigation system including sprinkler, valve, and controller installation.

This course deals directly with the issue of wise wa­ter management. Students will review advanced soil/water plant relationships, advanced schedul­ing, system uniformity and efficiency details, pumps, job safety requirements, national codes affecting our industry, and water conservation. This class is designed to prepare students for the Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) exam, focusing on the key areas contractors typically struggle with when preparing for the CIC exam. Decoder Troubleshooting

The first part of the class will introduce students to decoder systems in general, design principles, and installation. Emphasis will be on Decoder sys­tem equipment and troubleshooting techniques. The second part of the class will cover advanced troubleshooting techniques using a simple de­coder system setup for hands-on operation and troubleshooting. In this course, attendees will go through the 5 step drip design process. The steps include gathering site data, calculating the plant water requirement, choosing emission device(s), calcu­lating application rate & run time and preparing a system layout. It is important that students have a strong working knowledge of low volume products and their uses before taking this class. It is recommended that they take Drip Installation & Maintenance before taking the Landscape Drip Design class. Prerequisite Drip Installation & Maintenance or five years of working with drip/low volume products.

SiteControl Software Advanced

Advanced Software Training is for the person responsible for the programming, monitoring, and reporting on irrigation operations. This class walks the user through the key points of the start-up process, effectively integrating Flo-Manager®, using databases for importing, establishing maps, troubleshooting, and incorporation of “smart” features into programs and schedules. Prerequi­site: Successful completion of SiteControl Software Basic.

In this course, students are given an overview of a number of different irrigation estimating methods. Students learn how to create a detailed job estimate, taking into account the products and labor required to complete an installation. Students practice what they learned by com­pleting detail job estimations in the class. This course emphasizes the importance of detailed, professional and financially sound estimates. This course is designed for a contractor with little or no estimating experience.

Golf Pump Station Service and Troubleshooting

This 4-hour course will give you the skills to diag­nose pump station problems, learn proper opera­tion, and set-up a pump station for optimum performance. Learn about the hardware, software, and design methodologies used in Rain Bird Pump Stations and how to apply this knowledge in the field. Become familiar with the Operator Interface and how to extract data from it in a hands-on environment. Learn how to interface with a Rain Bird central control via Pump Manager for the ultimate in system control. Other training recommended to be taken in conjunction with this class includes: 176 – Golf Smart Pump/Pump Manager.

Central Control Communication

This class will assist Central Control distributors, contractors, and end users to integrate, imple­ment and install Ethernet network device servers and spread spectrum radios. Wired Ethernet, WiFi, fiber optic, and 900 MHz spread spectrum radio applications are covered. These commu­nication solutions can be used with Maxicom2®, SiteControl®, MDC and the new IQ Central Control systems. Hardware selection, placement and installation topics will be discussed. Hands-on exercises will take participant through proper programming, configuration, and troubleshoot­ing methods. Hardware and support for these solutions are available through RBSC. Prior knowledge or experience with Central Controls, Ethernet networks, or data radio applications is recommended.
