So you’re new to the irrigation industry or you have never had an opportunity to get your hands on any product, now is your chance. Irrigation Technician Course
This intensive two day course takes you through the important topics related to the repair and maintenance of efficient irrigation systems. The class will present scenarios commonly experienced by irrigation technicians and then examine the possible causes and solutions to each issue. This class is ideal for irrigation service technicians, irrigation system managers, distributor personnel or other irrigation professionals that want a better understanding of the set-up and maintenance of efficient, effective irrigation systems.
Landscape Irrigation Design Process
“How do you eat an elephant?: One bite at a time.” Irrigation design can be an intimidating task, but it doesn’t need to be. Explore the design process through a logical set of steps written to simplify irrigation design for beginners and experienced designers alike. The key to the popularity of this course is its hands-on approach; Participants are given opportunities to perform practical exercises in irrigation design using an in-class site plan. (Note: A Rain Bird product catalog is provided in class, but students may bring any manufacturer’s catalog they wish to use)
Efficient Irrigation Scheduling

This class is designed for financial decision-makers involved in the process of pricing irrigation contracting projects, both installation and maintenance. Learn the typical cost categories involved in irrigation projects, how to recover overhead, and most importantly, earn a profit after all of the bills have been paid. (Note: no project estimating system is perfect, and Rain Bird Training Services cannot guarantee profitability of any project you price using the methods in this class).

Golf Irrigation Technician
This hands-on class is ideal for any golf course irrigation professional that wants a better understanding of the installation, maintenance and repair of efficient golf course irrigation systems. In-class activities will present each major component of the golf irrigation system, including operation and troubleshooting of each part. Irrigation system components covered will include pumps, valves, valve-in-head rotors, and weather stations. Students will also discuss irrigation electrical system operation, and surge suppression topics.
Golf Central Control Operator
Learn how to navigate through Rain Bird’s golf central control software (Cirrus™, Nimbus™ II, Stratus™ II, or Stratus™ LT). Experts will guide you through Front Office icons and show how to make common adjustments to your system including how to write programs using the Quick-IRR feature. This class is specifically designed to provide information necessary for day-to-day operation of the central control system. (Requires a working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system).
Satellite Control System Technician
This hands-on class is ideal for any golf course irrigation professional working with a satellite control system. The class material will cover communication options for both 2-wire and LINK systems. In-class activities will present each major component of the satellite and interface device, including operation and troubleshooting of each part.
Integrated Control System (ICS) Technician
Participants in this introductory class will be presented with information on the Rain Bird Integrated Control System. All aspects of the IC System will be covered, including system architecture, design, installation, operation, and troubleshooting. Throughout the class, hands-on activities will be used to reinforce each section of training.
Advanced Golf Irrigation Technician
Description: This hands-on class is designed for the technical service staff with Rain Bird Golf authorized distributors. Topics covered are some of the more infrequent issues experienced in the field with the Integrated Control System and valve-in-head rotors. Hands-on activities are included to help you understand how to quickly provide a solution to your customer – the end user.
Irrigation Contractor Review
This course deals directly with the issue of wise water management. Students will review advanced soil/water plant relationships, advanced scheduling, system uniformity and efficiency details, pumps, job safety requirements, national codes affecting our industry, and water conservation. This class is designed to prepare students for the Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) exam, focusing on the key areas contractors typically struggle with when preparing for the CIC exam. Landscape Irrigation Auditor Review
Learn how to perform field tests on irrigation systems to determine efficiency, as well as how to combine plant water use, soils and local weather data to calculate accurate water schedules for irrigation systems. IA’s Certified Irrigation Technician Exam
CITs are field technicians who install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems. To become a CIT, you must:
ESP-LX (Series) Operator - Part 1
This training will teach students how to program and operate the Rain Bird ESP-LX Series of controllers using features such as Flow Manager™, Flow Watch™ and Simulstations™ as well as using diagnostic functions to troubleshoot system discrepancies.
Residential Controller Technician
This course offers the irrigation contractor the solution to a water-efficient residential irrigation system control. Rain Bird’s residential and light commercial controller line contain the features necessary to efficiently irrigate a property with minimal ongoing changes, i.e. you spend less time on the customer’s property. This class will cover programming techniques of three different Rain Bird res/com controller products: ESP-TM2, ESP-Me, and LNK WiFi Stick. This class will also cover basic troubleshooting techniques for traditionally wired irrigation controllers.
2-Wire System Technician
This training will introduce students to Rain Bird 2-Wire Control Systems in general, design principles, and installation techniques. Additional emphasis is given to grounding techniques and using a simple 2-Wire system setup for hands-on operation and troubleshooting 2-Wire system faults.
Electrical Troubleshooting for Irrigation Systems
Students will be introduced to the basics of electricity and how it applies to irrigation systems. Multi-meters will be utilized in taking voltage and resistance measurements in class. Typical irrigation system electrical discrepancies will be presented with possible causes and solutions in addition to tracking buried wires and valves and isolating wire faults. IQ v3.0 Cloud Operator
This training introduces the IQ v3.0 Cloud Central Control Software system software and its primary functions related to basic and advanced irrigation operation, monitoring, programming and reporting. Programming complexity is equal to that of a stand-alone irrigation controller program.
IQ v3.0 Cloud Technician
This training introduces and defines the role of the IQ™v3.0 system hardware components working with the IQ v3.0 Cloud operating platform. Hands on installation activities include communication between the IQ v3.0 Cloud and select IQ-NCC Network Communication Cartridges.
This hardware training is designed to introduce and instruct the technician responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, troubleshooting and repair of the Maxicom Central Control irrigation system. Training is focused on each of the system’s hardware components followed with hands-on installation activities with the Central Controller, Weather Station, Site SAT, Cluster Control Unit, Satellite, and sensors. Additional topics include advanced communication protocols covering Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Advanced Spread Spectrum modems as they integrate with the Maxicom Central Control system.
This software training is designed to introduce and instruct the end-user on the basic and advanced operation of the Maxicom²® Central Control system software. Emphasis is placed on three areas: 1) Database construction 2) Writing basic and advanced schedules 3) Daily operation and run time/flow log analysis of the irrigation cycle. This training is also designed for the Water Manager engaged in the business of irrigation system management and monitoring including discussions of soil, plant and water relationships and advanced ET based irrigation scheduling.
